Mary was born and raised in New York and has been an award winning journalist for more than 30 years, having worked as a producer, reporter and writer for NBC News, CBS News, The Christian Science Monitor, WCVB in Boston and The WNET Group public television in New York. Most recently Mary was Senior Director for Standards and Practices for the NBC News Group. In between journalist roles, Mary spent two years in Seattle as Senior Policy and Communications Officer for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Mary graduated from Smith College with a degree in Theatre and was later awarded the Knight Wallace Fellowship in Law at the University of Michigan, where she spent a year studying constitutional, criminal and family law.

I’ve been very lucky in my career to have traveled to almost every state and more than 35 countries. Exploring and experiencing cultures, people and events around the world has been a rich and invaluable education. I can only wish I’d had this multicultural exposure as a teenager at a place like Camp Rising Sun. I’m delighted to be supporting the important work of CRS, helping to launch the global leaders of tomorrow.
