Hi! My name is Meghan Hunter, and I am a Freshman at Provo High School in Utah.  I was involved in student government this year and loved being with everyone else in it.  I participate in service projects whenever I can, and am in clubs that center around doing service in our community.  I love running and am on the Track and Cross Country team at my school.  I love being outside and also enjoy the social aspect of being on a team.  When a classmate told me about Camp Rising Sun, I was so excited to have that opportunity.  Ever since I was chosen to represent Provo High, I can’t stop thinking about it.  I want to go to Camp Rising Sun to learn about and further appreciate other cultures and to build new relationships with other girls my age.

I’ve participated in many service projects over the years that helped instill some of the principles desired by Camp Rising Sun.  Some of the projects that I’ve been involved in include a recycling project at my high school, park cleanups for the community, babysitting for people that can’t afford it, timing and helping at young children’s track meets, visiting elderly neighbors, and National Honor Society activities.

A diverse group of 120 gifted, highly motivated young people from 25 countries participate in Camp Rising Sun: four weeks carefully designed to promote personal growth, leadership skills, service ethics, and intercultural understanding. Through experiential learning, campers try new things, plan projects, and teach and follow their peers. By taking leadership roles, each camper learns what it means to be accountable to others and true to their own leadership styles.
Selection is highly competitive and based on intellect, character, humanity, leadership potential, and individuality.

Every student selected is awarded a full scholarship to attend Camp Rising Sun located in Rhinebeck, NY, 90 miles north of New York City. Their scholarship, however, does not cover travel costs. We are committed to having campers from all over the world attend our unique program. In order for many of them to travel to New York, we ask that you consider donating to help fund their flights.
