Honoring Christina Rose Busso

Initially selected to participate in the Camp Rising Sun program in 1993, Christina Busso received the gift of a life-changing international educational experience. Christina returned to CRS as a second-year camper in 1994 and later she was among the very first alumnae to join the Board of Directors (’03-05). Christina has served the Foundation as Director of Alumni Relations and as Interim Executive Director since 2005. Her tireless actions demonstrate how the gift of the Rising Sun experience can spark within someone a commitment to support many future generations of servant leaders.

Christina will be embarking in a new professional path at the end of January 2016. In considering her departure from the staff of LAJF, alumni have expressed many heartfelt words about Christina. Rene Pierpont, ‘00, ‘02, ‘03 Staff ‘10-16 Board, remarked that Christina has been a “magnificent example for young alumni in how to make a positive impact on the Foundation.” Rene shared that she has been inspired by Christina’s endless optimism and energy, her flexibility in adapting to new challenges, and her welcoming spirit. “I have greatly valued Christina’s advice and friendship as a Board member, an alumna, and a human.”

Queenie Mui ‘03-04 Camper noted that “as one of the first people who is consistently there to greet you at the reunions, Christina is always warm and welcoming, but also on top of her game and always knows what is going on, who to direct you to should you have a question, and where to go if you need more information she cannot provide."  Queenie relayed that conversations she has had with Christina have had a deep impact during challenging moments in her life. She noted that, “Christina's strength, nurturing, and compassion are just a few of the many reasons why I adore her and appreciate her for all that she has done for me and LAJF.”

Judy Fox, ‘09-13 Executive Director, remarked of her former colleague, “if there were ever a contest for the quintessential CRS camper-alumna, my nominee would be Christina Busso. I thoroughly enjoyed my four years of working with this woman-of-all-seasons. We ask on applications, “What are the first words that come to mind when you think about the candidate?” For Christina, mine would be many: resourceful, creative, spontaneous, caring, giving, compassionate, smart, warm, witty, dedicated. And that doesn’t cover the added value of her musicality and the generosity with which she shared her talents with our campers.”

As Christina moves on to her new role as Director of Advancement for the French International School in Washington, DC, we wish to celebrate and thank her for her years of dedicated service to LAJF. While we will greatly miss her wisdom, compassion and common sense on the staff of LAJF, we look forward to seeing her talents blossom in a new professional direction. We are gladdened by the knowledge that Christina will remain a committed and beloved member of our alumni community.
